In light of the current lockdown and the extension to the end of April, we are making arrangements to continue schooling online as from Monday the 20th of April 2020. Our teachers are hard at work preparing so that the transition is as seamless as possible.
Roxer Academy will use the Google for Education Suite, and in particular, Google Classroom, to assign academic work and collect the completed assignments from students in real-time. The school hours will be exactly the same as when the students physically attended school. The classes will thus start at 07:30 every morning. The normal timetable will be followed and each subject’s work will be posted as per the schedule and will be due at the scheduled time. This will assist both students and parents with time allocations and a predictable routine. The weekly schedule will be posted as an announcement in students' classrooms so that they are accessible when needed.
As parents and caregivers will be the student’s first port of call for assistance, we encourage you to familiarise yourself with the platform, as well the work assignments, as they are posted. The teachers will also be available via the Classroom platform during class time to assist students and parents as much as possible.
- As a parent, you can receive email summaries showing your child’s progress in Classroom.
- You can choose the frequency of the emails, such as daily or weekly.
You can unsubscribe or remove yourself from Classroom at any time.
Parent email summaries include:
- Missing work—Work that’s late at the time the email was sent
- Upcoming work—Work that’s due today and tomorrow (for daily emails) or work that’s due in the upcoming week (for weekly emails)
- Class activity—Announcements, assignments, and questions recently posted by teachers
After completing assigned work the student must ‘turn in’ his/her work to the teacher, or mark it as ‘submitted’. At the top left of Classroom, the three lines bring up a menu, including a ‘To Do’ list of assignments. This makes it very easy to see what needs to be completed.
The teacher reviews the work, marks it and returns it so that you and the student can go through the feedback in the pursuit of continuous improvement.
You can also help your child install the Google Classroom app on his/her device. This will allow him/her to access the assignments directly, as well as submit work, check deadlines and contact the teacher.
In order to access the system, each student will need a Roxer Academy account. During the next couple of days, we will be creating an @roxer.xyz account for each student. The login details will be emailed to the email address that was submitted for delivery of the extra work during the school closure period. Please follow the steps in the email in order to activate the account and set a secure password.
There are numerous tutorials on the internet to help you familiarise yourself with Google Classroom and we encourage every parent and student to make use of these resources.
